    Creamed Cabbage

    Yields: 6 servings


    List of Ingredients


    • 3 cups thinly sliced cabbage,red or green
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • sprinkle of nutmeg
    • 1 cup heavy cream [whipping]
    • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. Spray shallow baking dish-such as a pie pan-with non stick baking spray.
    3. Spread the sliced cabbage around in the dish as evenly as possible. Scatter sugar,salt and nutmeg over the cabbage and pour in the cream.
    4. Top with bread crumbs in as even a layer as you can make it. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 min.


    Final Comments


    Note: This is a bery flexible dish. It can bake for an hour at 325 degrees or half-hour at 375 degrees.,so it can go into the oven with other things. You may also subtitute evaporated skimmed milk for the heavy cream if butter fat is a concern for you,although the dish will not be quite as pleasing in that case.
