    4 1/2 cups sifted flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 cup butter or regular margarine
    1 cup cooking oil
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

    Sift together flour, baking soda, and cream ot tartar. Set aside.

    Cream together butter, oil, 1 cup sugar, and confectioners sugar in mixing bowl until light and fluffy, using electric mixer at medium speed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla. Gradually stir dry ingredients into creamed mixture, mixing well. Add walnuts or pecans.

    Drop mixture by rounded teaspoonful, about 3 inches apart, on greased baking sheets. Flatten each with bottom of greased drinking glass dipped in sugar.

    Bake in 375ºF. oven for 10 minutes, or until lightly browned around the edges. Remove from baking sheets and cool on racks.

    Yield: 7 dozen
